Urology

Başkent University Hospital Urology departments provide a urological examination, diagnosis, and treatment services to adult and child patients.

Urology Department Diagnosis and Treatment Services
Başkent University Hospital Urology departments; Apart from routine operations such as prostate and bladder TUR surgeries, open and closed stone surgeries (ureteroscopy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy), stone crushing (ESWL) treatment, it offers diagnosis and treatment services on urological cancer surgeries, pediatric urology surgeries, aerodynamics, and male sexual dysfunction.

Drug and surgical treatment methods (TUR, Greenlight Laser PVP, Greenlight Laser HPS, Prostate surgery with Holmium Laser – HoLEP-, Feedback Thermotherapy) are used in the treatment of urinary disorders due to prostate enlargement (BPH). In addition, intensive studies are carried out in areas that concern prostate health, such as prostate cancer screening and treatment of prostate infections.

Uro-oncology
Nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy (for prostate cancer) and radical cystectomy (for bladder cancer) are frequently performed in the department. In addition, with the support of anesthesiology and intensive care services, other urological oncology surgeries such as kidney and testicular cancer are performed. In some urological cancer cases, treatment is planned in coordination with medical oncology and radiotherapy departments.

Endourology and Stone Diseases
Endoscopic (closed system) surgeries are also used in the treatment of urinary system stone disease in Başkent University Hospital. In addition to surgical treatment, the stone breaking (ESWL) method is used. The urology department serves in the endourological treatment of stone disease (ureteroscopy, percutaneous kidney stone surgery – PCNL).

Women’s urology
Diagnosis and treatment services are provided in diseases such as urinary incontinence (stress and compression incontinence), interstitial cystitis. The urodynamics unit provides the opportunity for diagnostic examination of problems related to urine retention and urination. Urodynamic studies and uro-radiological methods are used in the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of all types of urinary incontinence problems, for example, night wetting in children or incontinence in women and patients with myelodysplasia (spina bifida).

Andrology
Examination, examination and treatment for erectile dysfunction, which is called male erectile dysfunction, and male infertility, which is defined as male infertility, are carried out by planning together with other medical specialties.

Child Urology
Pediatric urology is concerned with congenital or developing urinary and genital diseases and their treatment starting from the mother’s womb, which can be seen in newborns and later periods. Examples of these diseases are Hydrocele and cord cyst, Undescended testicle, circumcision, emergency situations of testicles and bags (Acute scrotum and testicular torsion) and hypospadias.

Surgical repair of hypospadias (congenital urinary outlet below the normal location) is one of the areas of the urology department.
